Laurel Hill Day to be Held on August 28

We're pleased to announce that we'll be holding Laurel Hill Day on Saturday, August 28th at 2 p.m at Laurel Hill Park. This 168th anniversary of LHA’s founding will celebrate our commitment to the environment and cultural heritage of Stockbridge. The 2021 Laurel Hill Day will celebrate two milestones for women by commemorating the 150th anniversary of the first woman who spoke at the Laurel Hill rostrum, and recognizing the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th amendment, which guarantees and protects women’s right to vote. The program will feature impactful women who will address how they’ve promoted change in the ways we think of our lands, our people, culture, heritage and the future of the environment in which we live. Keynote speakers will include Jennie A. Kassanoff, Professor of English at Barnard College, and Shannon Holsey, President of the Mohican-Munsee-Stockbridge tribe. Jennie Kassanoff teaches courses in nineteenth- and early twentieth-century American literature and culture at Barnard College. Kassanoff’s research focuses on post-Civil War American culture. She has earned both of Barnard's major teaching awards - the Teaching Excellence Award in 2003 and the Emily Gregory Award in 2011. Celebrate Earth Day in Stockbridge by picking up litter in your neighborhood or on LHA trails and properties during Earth Week. Clean up while you hike the Laura’s Tower or Ice Glen Trails. Accessible trails and properties include the Mary Flynn Trail and Roeder Park.
